The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc is excited to introduce Active Days, a new 55+ recreation pilot project designed to provide more opportunities for older adults to stay active, connect with others, and participate in programs that support physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being. Active Days was created to complement the Municipality’s existing 55+ recreation programs and expand the variety of activities available throughout the community. The program offers a rotating selection of physical, social, creative, educational, and recreational activities, with most programs currently taking place at the Caradoc Community Centre in Mount Brydges.

The fall 2026 lineup includes a variety of programs, giving participants the opportunity to choose activities that interest them. Programs include Active Games, Hybrid Yoga, Nature Walks, Crafty Corner, Coffee & Conversation, Move & Strengthen, Lunch Club, Book Club, Bridge, Board Game Café, Floor Curling, Pickleball, and a Community Speaker Series.

One of the highlights of the fall lineup is the Community Speaker Series, beginning October 9 with award-winning writer and broadcaster Jeffrey Reed, who will speak about healthy aging, staying active, pursuing interests, and life after or alongside a career.

Nature Walks, led by local birder Dave Skinner, will take participants through Mount Brydges Lions Park to explore the natural beauty of the local area. Participants will have the opportunity to stay active and socialize while looking for local birds, wildlife, plants, trees, and seasonal changes.

In October, Crafty Corner will feature a four-week traditional rug-hooking program led by local volunteer Cheryl Keep, giving participants an opportunity to learn a new craft while connecting with others.

Active Days is intended to be inclusive and welcoming to the broader 55+ community. Participants do not have to live in Strathroy-Caradoc to take part, and the Municipality hopes to continue expanding the program based on community feedback and participation.

The Active Days pilot will continue to evolve based on community feedback and participation. The Municipality is also exploring opportunities to offer evening programming in the future, providing additional options for members of the 55+ community who may still be working during the day and are unable to participate in daytime programs.

The Municipality is also looking for community members and organizations interested in getting involved. Volunteers may assist with programs, help with setup and cleanup, share a skill or hobby, lead an activity, or provide a presentation.

New Active Days programming begins September 22, with the full fall lineup getting underway at the beginning of October. The September and October calendars can be viewed on StrathroyArea.ca’s Events & Activities page, as well as on the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc’s Active Days 55+ Program webpage, where residents can find program descriptions, schedules, and registration information.

To register, participants can do so online through the Active Days 55+ Program webpage, which can be found on the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc website, www.strathroy-caradoc.ca, or call 519-245-1070 for assistance with registration.
