Downtown Strathroy will come alive with the sounds and spirit of Ireland this summer as the inaugural Strathroy Mini Irish Fest takes place on Saturday, July 11, bringing together live music, local venues, and community celebration for an evening full of Celtic culture and entertainment.

Supported by The Wright Place, the event will feature performances at multiple downtown locations, showcasing both internationally inspired talent and strong local community connections. Organizers hope the festival becomes a new annual tradition for Strathroy.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. at The Cookie Bar with a free performance by Dublin-born singer Alan Lynch, now based in London, Ontario. Known throughout the region’s pubs and music venues, Lynch blends traditional Irish favourites with contemporary sounds, creating an energetic and welcoming atmosphere.

At 7 p.m., the focus shifts to Strathroy United Church, where award-winning Canadian folk and Celtic group Maggie’s Wake will take the stage. Featuring musicians from London and Toronto, the band is recognized for its rich harmonies, traditional Celtic influences, and original music. Lead singer Tara’s strong Irish roots help bring authenticity and emotion to every performance, making the church’s beautiful setting an ideal venue for the evening concert.

The night wraps up at 9 p.m. with a Traditional Irish Session at The Rusty Wrench. Featuring musicians Johnny and Rachel from the London Irish Folk Club, the session will showcase authentic Irish pub-style music with accordion and banjo performances inspired by the traditions of County Clare, Ireland.

Organizers intentionally selected downtown venues that actively support the local community and culture. Following the recent success of downtown events like the night market, the festival aims to continue highlighting the vibrancy and potential of Strathroy’s core.

While the performances at The Cookie Bar and The Rusty Wrench are free to attend, tickets for Maggie’s Wake at Strathroy United Church are $25 and can be purchased in advance through Eventbrite or at the door the evening of the concert.

The Strathroy Mini Irish Fest is connected to the broader Forest City Irish Fest organization, a group dedicated to celebrating and sharing Irish music, culture, and traditions within the community.

Strathroy’s festival organizer Simon Geary says the event was inspired by a desire to bring more cultural experiences to downtown Strathroy while building community connections through music and celebration.

“We hope to see everyone downtown on July 11,” Geary shared, while also extending special thanks to The Wright Place for helping make the festival possible through community support and grant funding.

Community members interested in volunteering or becoming involved with future events are encouraged to contact Simon Geary at 226-977-6046.
